Kimberley Tour Day 1             Broome to Windjana Gorge

We leave Broome, boil the billy for morning tea at Willare Bridge on the mighty Fitzroy River before continuing on to The Boab Prison tree at Derby and a tour around Derby, with a picnic lunch. Leaving Derby we are soon on the famous Gibb River Road (the Old Beef Road of the Kimberley) cutting across the heart of the Kimberley.

We arrive at Windjana in plenty of time to explore this beautiful gorge, keeping an eye out for Johnston crocodiles "Unsalted" and experience an "out of this world" sunset.

Sleeping at:    Windjana Gorge National Park (Dinner, Showers & Toilets)

Kimberley Tour Day 2             Windjana Gorge to Bell's Gorge and Silent Grove

Grab your torches and bathers for a hike through Tunnel Creek this morning. If you are not so keen on water and caves, you can go and explore outside. You may be lucky enough to see a Kurrajong (Kimberley Rose) in flower.

We also visit the ruins of the Old Police Station at Lillimilura. Our drive today takes us further along the Gibb River Road crossing the Kimberley's highest mountain range, the King Leopold Range. Excitement mounts as we head for one of the most awe-inspiring gorges in the Kimberley, Bells Gorge.
Sleeping at:    Silent Grove Camp Site (Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner, Showers & Toilets)

Kimberley Tour Day 3            Silent Grove to King Edward

Our drive today takes us further along the Gibb River Road, stopping for a swim in the crystal clear waters of Galvin's Gorge. We have an opportunity to see plenty of wildlife, so keep your eyes peeled for wallabies, wild donkeys, native birds and the like.

We leave the Gibb River Road for the even more remote Kalumburu Road, a short trip up towards the wilderness area of the Mitchell Plateau. You'll have your first sight of the Livistona Palms and maybe a cymbidium (tree orchids) or two, as we head for our idyllic campsite.

Sleeping at:    King Edward River Bushcamp (Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner, Toilets)

Kimberley Tour Day 4            King Edward River

A free day gives you a wonderful opportunity to swim, bird watch, relax, explore or take photos. In the afternoon, your driver will take you to see some impressive Aboriginal rock art. Of course you will be back in time for a spectacular sunset over the river.

Sleeping at:    King Edward River Bushcamp (Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner, Toilets)

Kimberley Tour Day 5            King Edward River to Mitchell Plateau and back

An early start for our memorable trip into the wilderness area of the Mitchell Plateau and Mitchell Falls, accessible only by four wheel drive.

A 90 minute hike takes you into the stunning Mitchell Falls. This is a pretty tough walk, but truly worth the effort as we pass Little Merten and Big Merten Falls and the Lilly Pond, and keep our eyes peeled for unusual and rare bird life - an optional free helicopter flight into the falls is nearly always available. We then return to our King Edward River campsite with albums of photographs and bundles of memories.

Sleeping at:
King Edward River Bushcamp (Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner, Toilets)

Kimberley Tour Day 6            King Edward River to Durack Station

A day of contrasts as we make our way back to the Gibb River Road, through groves of Livistona Palms and forests and woodlands of ironbarks and stringybarks, then onto Jack's Waterhole on Durack Station for a good night's sleep - AND A HOT SHOWER.

Sleeping at:    Jack's Waterhole (Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner, Showers & Toilets)

Kimberley Tour Day 7            Ellenbrae to Kununurra

Another day full of beautiful scenery as we make our way through the Penteco st Range and view and travel beside the mighty Cockburn Range with its huge ramparts looming towards us. We continue on through cattle country to the famous El Questro Station where we explore the stunning Emma Gorge.

After at dinner at Home Valley Station, we sadly leave the Gibb River Road.  Back on the sealed road, our next stop is Kununurra and an opportunity to sample the town's pubs and restaurants - afterall, it's the cook's night off.

Sleeping at:    Kimberleyland Caravan Park (Breakfast & Lunch, Showers & Toilets)

Kimberley Tour Day 8             A Day in Kununurra

A town tour this morning includes such places as Ivanhoe Crossing on the Ord River, the irrigation areas and the surrounding farms. You have a free afternoon, why not take a cruise up the beautiful Ord River?

Sleeping at:    Kimberleyland Caravan Park (Breakfast & Dinner, Showers & Toilets)

Kimberley Tour Day 9            Kununurra to the Bungle Bungle National Park (Purnululu)

Once more, we travel through cattle country as we journey beside the Durack and Carr Boyd Ranges, past the Argyle Diamond mine and onto Turkey Creek and the Aboriginal settlement Warmun. After a drink stop we continue a short way before turning off the highway for a bit of four wheel driving as we head into the Bungle Bungle National Park (Purnululu).

After a lunch stop at Calyco Springs it's an early afternoon arrival at our Bungle Bungle campsite. Explore and then stake a vantage point to watch the sunset over the Bungles Massif.

Sleeping at:    Our campsite in Bungle Bungle National Park (Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner, Showers & Toilets)

Kimberley Tour Day 10            Bungle Bungles

Today we explore the southern end of the Bungles. You'll be amazed at the variety of landforms you'll see today - The Beehives or Domes (the most famous) are only one. You will also experience the magnificence of Cathedral Gorge and see Piccaninny Creek and "The Elephants".

This area has some gorgeous wildflowers in season too. If you want to add another dimension to your Purnululu experience, why not splurge and take a helicopter flight over the Bungles.

Kimberley Tour Day 11            Bungle Bungles

Today you can appreciate the contrast between the northern end of the massif and the southern end. Several walks are available including the surprising Mini Palms area. This is a strenuous walk but well worth while (the acoustics are amazing). For those who are really keen the walk into Frog Hole is also available.

A short drive takes us to Echidna Chasm, the walls of which seem to rise forever and the light at midday is a photographer's dream. You may be lucky enough to find a Bower Bird's bower. And, at the end of the day, enjoy a free afternoon for relaxing, bird watching, hiking.

Sleeping at:    Our campsite in Bungle Bungle National Park (Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner, Showers & Toilets)

Kimberley Tour Day 12            Bungle Bungles to Fitzroy Crossing

We leave this ancient land behind us and head for Halls Creek where the first discovery of gold was made in WA. A visit is made to China Wall - you'd swear it was man made. After an early lunch we head along the highway to our overnight camp at Fitzroy Crossing.

Sleeping at:    Our campsite in The Lodge Caravan Park (Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner, Showers & Toilets)

Kimberley Tour Day 13             Bungle Bungles to Fitzroy Crossing

A morning cruise will enable you to marvel at the splendour of Geikie Gorge - remember to keep your fingers out of the way of the crocodiles. Geikie Gorge is a haven for birdlife too. Leaving Fitzroy, we return to Broome at approximately 4:30 PM and come to the end of our 13 Day Kimberley Adventure.
