Australia as a country is over 7 million square kilometres; Western Australia represents nearly 30% of that area with less than 10% of the population. As you are travelling throughout the state there are going to be loads of long roads and open spaces, so to see it properly you are going to need lots of time, and often a 4WD vehicle.

Western Australia is effectively divided by the Tropic of Capricorn, which separates the tropical North from the Mediterranean style south. Depending upon what you want to see and how you want to travel you can use this longitudinal line to help plan your travels.

North of the Tropic has 2 basic seasons, the Wet and the Dry. Both seasons offer different sights and experiences and it is important to know what you want from your visit, as it will determine the time of year you should visit.

During the Dry Season (May to October)

The North is at it’s peak accessibility and offers a wide range of activities from the giant whale sharks and spectacular diving of the Ningaloo Reef near Coral Bay and Exmouth, to the world famous Gibb River Road and the gorges and artwork of the Kimberley Region. This is when our tours from Broome to Darwin and Darwin to Broome are at there busiest and should be booked well in advance.

During the Wet Season or Tropical Summer (November-April)

The North enters its monsoon season and transforms a dry lifeless area into a lush tropical region full of life and dominated by powerful storms and flooding rivers. The 4WD roads are generally closed and accessibility to the Kimberley is restricted.

However, South of the Tropic is into its peak summer season. The region to the south west of Perth is warm and full of long white beaches, world class wineries and unique West Australian Fauna. These areas include Margaret River, Bunbury, Walpole and Esperance as well as the Tall Tree forests and Wave Rock. Perth itself is full of life. With its beach lifestyle, summer activity and many fascinating sights and sounds it is fast becoming the preferred entry into Australia from Europe and beyond. It is also a great starting point for those thinking of travelling beyond Western Australia.

To the north of Perth during Nov-Apr you can experience many different national parks and world heritage regions all offering a range of exquisitely beautiful walks and swimming beaches. These areas include Kalbarri National Park, Coral Bay, Exmouth and the world famous dolphins at Monkey Mia as well as much, much more.
